    Anne Marie Gloag was born in Bucharest, Romania and moved to the US when she was 14. She graduated from Old Dominion University with a major in applied mathematics and obtained a PhD in applied mathematics from Northwestern University in 1996. After working in the UK for 2 years, she moved to San Diego, California.
